Cognitive decline is not an inevitable part of aging, its causes deserve thorough investigation.
Memory loss, declining cognitive sharpness, difficulty with recall, and word-finding problems are frequently attributed to aging, but they are not a normal or inevitable part of the aging process. When these symptoms appear earlier than expected or progress faster than aging can account for, underlying biological factors deserve investigation.
Chronic infections including Lyme disease and EBV, mold toxicity, heavy metal accumulation (particularly mercury), neuroinflammation, and mitochondrial dysfunction all have well-documented connections to cognitive decline. Identifying the specific drivers through comprehensive testing, rather than attributing decline to aging and moving on, can open the door to meaningful cognitive restoration.
